Asanti Wellness

“Poses for Peace”

Mission

The name Asanti is a fusion of the Sanskrit words asana (yogic seat or posture) and shanti (peace).

Asanti Wellness was conceived and developed from its mission to support the integration of well-being and peace into the workplace, community and home.

Poses for Peace expresses the Asanti Wellness mission of fulfilling the societal need for physical wellness and inner peace.

Integrated Practice

Asanti Wellness offers a holistic health approach with the integration of yoga, functional movement, breathwork, meditation/mindfulness training, restorative relaxation practices and emotional-balancing techniques.  Lifestyle solutions such as these are the key to sustained well-being.

Developing an integrated practice provides a release from daily situational stressors and past negative patterns. With a steady approach to these mind-body lifestyle tools, the practitioner’s overall well-being is also enhanced with increased strength, balance, and flexibility.

Meditations may vary between seated and supported restorative poses.  Chairs may be used if requested.

Wholeness

Asanti Wellness encourages an individual practice that goes beyond the physical sense of self with an understanding that the mind, body, and emotions function as one thriving unit.

With health-minded goals that are progressive and sustainable, Asanti Wellness believes that freedom of movement, emotional empowerment and long-term vitality are available in all stages of life.

Decompression

Aerial Yoga Fundamental sessions are offered for semi-private groups or individuals looking to learn the fundamentals of an aerial yoga practice, including inversions.

Non-inversion Restorative Aerial Yoga sessions are also available while suspended only inches off the floor, enjoying the same sense of suspension with zero compression.  All Aerial Yoga sessions include guided meditation.

Asanti Wellness founder Barbara Boyer, envisions a society that supports physical vitality and emotional well-being throughout all stages of life.

Beginning her yoga and wellness journey over 25 years ago, Barbara was a dedicated student of yoga centers throughout Manhattan, NY including the Dharma Yoga Center which inspired her commitment to learn more about the transformative effects of yoga.

During these early years of seeking knowledge in the ancient practices, Barbara trained in Transcendental Meditation (TM) which remains to be an integral part of her daily life.

Barbara started her yoga teacher training in 2008 and continued with advanced studies as a registered Yoga Alliance E-RYT 500 and continuing education provider.

Recognizing the overwhelming need for mental health training as a wellness practitioner, Barbara has received certification in the Foundations of Yoga for Mental Health from renowned psychologist and yoga for mental health educator, Ashley Turner.

Integrating emotional balancing techniques into her wellness offerings and the curriculum of her accredited courses has gained much interest from college students and faculty at Mount Saint Mary College, Newburgh, New York where she functions as an adjunct professor of Yoga and Wellness.

As someone who has benefited greatly from these awareness practices for her own past trauma; Barbara continues to add to her skill set in this area.

Barbara can often be found participating in on-campus wellness events and local out-reach programs.

With an ongoing passion for creative movement and zero gravity health, Barbara added to her offerings in 2017 as a certified AntiGravity Fundamentals instructor at the Christopher Harrison AntiGravity Lab in NYC, recognized by the National Fitness Association of America (NASM). In 2021 Barbara completed a Yoga Alliance affiliated certification in Restorative Aerial Yoga.

Inspired to create a wellness journey for her clients that is both empowering and sustainable, Barbara supports the mission of Asanti Wellness to “merge movement into peaceful presence.”

MARY LOU CAROLAN

I enlisted Barbara’s help in yoga therapy to help me get to the “next place” in my field of work and life. I was feeling blocked. Through several sessions, Barbara was able bring me focus by helping to identify what was holding me back and to work with the chakras to free up my energy and move forward. By the end our yoga therapy sessions, I felt that I was in better alignment. By taking this time to turn inward and do the energy work, Barbara was able to get me back on the path to my true self. I recommend working with Barbara to do the same for you. It is a life changer.

John McCormick

My wife introduced me to Barbara’s yoga class while I was recovering from a severe injury related to years of cumulative physical trauma throughout my career in the construction industry. At first the practice was challenging both physically and mentally. In Barbara’s class I learned how to heal and strengthen my body. My perspective on the way I saw and felt things changed as well. She has taught us to connect our mind, body and breath. Although it is a journey, it’s one I’ll be on for the rest of my life. As far as Barbara’s innate ability as a teacher and mentor, she has the unique capability to read her student’s skill levels and needs. She adjusts to them seamlessly and accordingly without judgement. She is full of kindness and encouragement. A true yogini.

ALBERT DURSO

Barbara’s yoga sessions stretch both my mind and body. She creates a setting that allows for full immersion into a state of calm and focus. Any pains of the moment disappear, the events of the day recede into the background. Barbara’s calming voice and deep understanding of the Chaka system commands the room and evokes a deeper spiritual state on the class. She has inspired me to pursue the practice of yoga in my everyday life, through advanced readings and personal practices. I highly recommend her teachings to one and all.
